If You Are A Slut, Then Read This Post....

Been called a slut before? Then you obviously must be one. It doesn't matter why. Here you are. I would begin a story on why slut shaming should be stopped until I read an article where a young lady thought that slut shaming was a bad term to use. And here is why...

In the article, she mentioned that sluts turned into their own special interest group and lobby. That conjured up images of sexily dressed women with overly made faces and coiffed hair filled with split ends (Hey don't question the images in my head because lord knows I've stopped years ago) marching up and down in front of the White House demanding free condoms and lube, along with free taxi rides and sneakers to avoid that all important "Walk of Shame" in the morning.

So this is not an article about why slut-shaming needs to be stopped. It is an article about how the word needs to be abolished all together. I can practically hear some of you wonder why I used the name in the title. You figure I'm being a hypocrite and just looking for hits to my blog. Well that is not true either. My grandmother, I'm sure, was called a slut at some point of her life. A woman being called a whore, slut, skank, etc, is a guarantee in life and that's sad. The ridiculous point is that it doesn't matter the reason she got the title.

I watched a young family member call a girl a slut one day over the phone. When I asked her why, she went down the list and told me about all the people she allegedly slept with. Now this family member is a virgin and she's even been called a slut for NOT giving it up. I let her know that she has enough with boys calling her out her name, there is no need to join them.

And men know the power of using those words. Don't want to go out with him? He'll call you a slut. You DO go out with him, he calls you a slut for sleeping with him. When it should be the other way around. You would think that a man would do anything he could to continue to be with a wonderful woman such as yourself. Not ruin it by calling you out your name, guaranteeing that you'll never sleep with him again...well I hope so.

But thats not the case. That's never the case. You'll be called a slut just as sure as sunrise and taxes. Just because of its inevitability doesn't mean that you can't fight back. Some women have gone the option of owning the word just as other minority groups have done with racial slurs. But some women don't want to be called that word ever! And will take a stand if done so. It also helps that we remove the word from our vocabulary. But here is another point that needs to be made. It is not enough that you stop using the word slut.

When Nicky Minaj gets on stage with her breasts in full view in one of her outlandish costumes, celebrate her woman hood instead of denigrating her. When Miley Cyrus wants to gyrate her privates all over the stage, then let her. If you don't like it, change the channel. I watched half way amused as the so called feminists blasted her for her behavior, and in the process slut shamed her from here all the way to Tibet.  When you see a woman at a bar hanging all over your boyfriend, she's not a slut. She's just misguided and a victim of the system. There are millions more like her but change starts with you.
