RIP Dave Duerson

Dave Duerson, most notably known for playing football for the Chicago Bears, took his life February 17, 2011 to a self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

He left text messages behind for his family stating that he wanted his brain to be donated to be studied. Football players — even those in high school — can struggle with the effects of CTE
(Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy) Early symptoms can include erratic behavior; later symptoms can include movement disorders.

It is not known at this time if Mr. Duerson suffered from this disorder because at the date of this post, the autopsy has not been done.

What is clear that he did face many financial obstacles with filing for bankruptcy and the listing of his monthly income at $2800 and monthly expenses totaling over $6000.

I hope that the family receives the help that they need during this difficult time. To Dave, I'm sorry that you felt that suicide was your only option. Hopefully many people considering suicide will see that it truly does leave even more destruction behind for the people that truly did love you.

RIP Dave Duerson....I hope you find peace on the other side.
