Suicide Cocktails: Acetaminophen
This will be a series on different suicide methods that people use and why they DON'T work.
It takes a lot of fucking guts to toss a handful of pills in your mouth and wait for death. The beautiful part is that, unlike a gun, you can tell someone and get to a hospital in time for them to pump your stomach.
Here are some statistics on acetaminophen and suicide: In the United States, attempted suicide accounts for more than two thirds of acetaminophen related liver injuries whereas accidental overdoses account for only one third of the cases.
People use this drug simply because it is always readily available in huge doses. Since there are very few restrictions on purchasing and obtaining this drug, there is no surprise that people use it for suicidal purposes.
It takes four hours to peak in your system which means that's when you'll be feeling the full effects of the dose that was taken, but doctors will start administering life saving procedures the minute you walk through the door.
It takes a large amount of pills to get the ball rolling but with technology today, you're more likely to wind up on a liver transplant list if all goes to hell rather than dying. Definitely not a great way to die.
