Is Suicide Selfish?

This is a question that gets asked over and over again. People who have lost family members, loved ones, and friends to suicide say this often.

They always say, "What about the people that love you?" "How selfish could you be?" I even had a caller tell me that when his mother found a suicide letter, she was more concerned with the expenses of a funeral than she was about his death.

No wonder he was depressed.

Suicide can be a selfish thing to do to some, but it isn't. Many would say that it's selfless.

If someone confides in you that they want to commit suicide, DO NOT tell them that they are being selfish. To the suicidal person, this is the LAST THING they want to hear. Even over the phone, I can "hear" their eyes rolling.

Say anything... ANYTHING but call them selfish.

Here is why...

SUICIDAL PEOPLE  don't care if they are being selfish or not!!!!!!! They are only looking to end the pain that they are experiencing.
