"Finally It's Here"

Those were the reported last words of Felicia Garcia before she jumped in front of a train, ending her life after suffering from bullying at school.

Allegedly, the fifteen year old was bullied by members of the Tottenville's football team after a possible sexual encounter with many members of the team.

I cant, im done, I give up
This was a tweet sent from her account on October 22, 2012. As of the writing of this post, no charges have been brought against the boys in the school for the sexual assault.  After the sexual assault, the boys would not leave her alone and continued to harass her, according to a friend that wanted to remain anonymous.

Before Felicia fell backwards onto those tracks, I'm sure she felt a sense of relief that her torment and pain was over. As many people continue to demonize Amanda Todd for her actions, more children are in the same boat. They say that Amanda Todd brought this on herself because of her actions, as more children continue to follow in her footsteps.

We demonize our girls for being sexually active but do nothing to our boys that participate in the same behavior.

They should know better. Stop acting like a slut! Stop being a whore and act like a young lady, is the battle cry. If you don't act like a whore then this sort of thing won't happen to you.

We need to remember that they are just girls acting out. Many girls who are not getting attention at home will turn to boys to get what they are searching for. These girls need support and love. They don't need to be demonized. What are we teaching our boys? That girls are sexualized objects and need to be treated as such?

But no. As a society, we will continue to call our girls whores and sluts, giving them low self esteem and low self worth. We will continue to tell our girls that it's their fault for "letting" boys treat them like that. We give absolutely no responsibility to our boys, as they sit back and do it to someone else. We blame the girls for enticing these boys and making them do the things that they do.

How many more kids have to die America? Do these tragic circumstances have to show up at your house for you to act? It's getting so depressing and so demoralizing to see these stories every day. The comment section of these articles are full of apologists: male and female. They seem to approve of this sick kind of justice.

Felicia, I'm so sorry that you dealt with this torture. I'm so sorry that so many people failed you. I wish that your family has peace and understanding.

I don't know how much of this to take. Our kids are fighting a special kind of battle right now. This is a battle against themselves and our kids are losing. It is a fight of morals and self identity. We must stop judging others with this ridiculous invisible moral yardstick that we expect others to adhere to. We must look at others wit compassion and reach out to them.

Or we're going to have a lot of dead teenagers on our hands.
